WILLIAM TEMPLEMAN
Bill was born at Eastwood, Nottinghamshire and now lives at Tansley, near Matlock. He is married to Mary and they have a son and a daughter.
Bill is an electrician by trade but his greatest pleasure is making music. He has
successfully accompanied the Choir since 1997 and is held in high regard by all those
around him.
He is also organist / pianist for Tansley Methodist Church and for other musical
groups in the area. Bill says, "I see my strength in accompanying rather than as
a soloist, so I enjoy contributing to the overall sound of the Choir in full harmony"
He
is a loyal and highly valued member of the Dalesmen, where he is known as "Mr. Reliable".
John was born in Swansea and after graduating from Swansea University he joined Rolls Royce, hence he came to Derbyshire.
John's hobbies and interests are global travel (particularly bird-watching expeditions, hill walking in the Peak District, gardening, reading and playing the piano.
John started playing the piano at the age of 7 and later played double bass in the County Youth Orchestra in his native Wales.
John joined the Dalesmen in 1999. Music plays a very important part in his life and he says that "the joy of Male Voice Choral Singing is incomparable". He adds, "To see pleasure on the faces in our audience is an uplifting experience.
John is married to Val and they have two sons and four grandsons
Musical Director – Richard Hayward
Richard was born in Wales and went to Dental School at Guy's hospital, where he was musical Director for several Gilbert and Sullivan productions. More recently he was director of music at St Giles Church, Matlock and conducted a scratch performance of Handel's Messiah for 'Matlock Live', 2005.
Richard took over as musical Director with the Dalesmen in March 2011. He is particularly looking forward to the celebration of the choir's 25th Anniversary next year and the Concert Spectacular on Saturday the 16th June
Accompanist Patricia Affleck
Patricia Affleck (nee Simpson) was born in Edinburgh and now lives in Stapleford,
Nottingham. She is married to Douglas and works as a piano teacher in Nottinghamshire
schools. She also accompanies Nottingham Youth Voices.
She began playing the piano
at the age of 8. At the age of 15 she began studies at the Junior department of the
Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and she entered the Senior Academy in 2002.
She graduated with a BMus(hons) in July 2006 and was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma
in Performance from the Royal Academy of Music, London, in June 2007, where she studied
accompaniment with Julius Drake. Whilst at the Academy she was awarded the LRAM for
piano teaching, which she passed with Distinction. Patricia performs regularly with
singers and instrumentalists in a variety of contexts, from concerts and recitals
to weddings and music exams. She also enjoys playing the trumpet and clarinet and
is a keen singer.
