Are You Tuned In For The Digital Switchover
Avoid the pitfalls with our help scheme and top five tips for avoiding the scams
Top tips have been issued to ease people through the switch from analogue to digital TV.
Starting next year TV services are going fully digital and the old broadcast signal, known as analogue, will be switched off and replaced with a “digital” signal region by region.
Any TV set or video recorder that’s not converted to digital when the switchover takes place in a particular area will no longer receive TV programmes.
A scheme aimed at helping certain groups of people through the switchover has been set up and you are eligible if :-
You are aged 75 or over. OR
You receive attendance allowance, constant attendance allowance, mobility supplement or disability living allowance OR
You are registered blind or partially -sighted.
As well as the help available, organisation Digital TV has issued some tips to stop people being conned by rogue traders cashing in on the new technology.
Digital UK says :
No one from Digital UK will call unexpectedly without an appointment.
Turn away doorstep callers who claim to be from Digital UK.
Demand identification from uninvited callers and call the company to check
they are who they say they are.
Don’t agree to any work on the spot. Take time to think about what work (if any)
you want done.
Only buy goods and services you need for the switchover from reputable retailers
and traders that carry the digital tick logo.
If an offer seems too good to be true - in a leaflet, advert, by phone,
e-mail or personal approach - it probably is. Read details of any deal carefully.
