The Strutt Family
Jedediah Strutt was a Derbyshire man who founded his fortuneon the
development of Machine-made ribbed knitting.
This wealth enabled him to invest in other textile industries and eventually form a
partnership with Richard Arkwright to build the first water-powered cotton
spinning mills.
The Strutt family's association with Belper began in 1776 when the South Mill was build,They then went on to build many more mills at Belper and Milford which is two miles down the river.
Come and walk round the Clusters and admire Long Row with its cobbled street, see the housing and the community which the Strutt family developed for their workers which aimed to cater for all their needs.
North Mill Opening Times
Summer -- Opening times are 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday,Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
and Sunday from March to the end of October
Winter -- (November to February)
(Saturday & Sunday 1 p.m. To 5 p.m. -- Open Boxing Day and New Years Day
Group bookings are welcome at any time, including evenings, by arrangement.
We provide group tours tailored to your requirements.
