About the event

National Drive it Day

Great British Car Journey is proud to be part of The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs and are delighted to be supporting National Drive It Day 2024.

Starting and ending at Great British Car Journey, on Sunday 21st April for our Drive It Day event, we’ve planned a fabulous 39-mile route through the beautiful Peak District landscape, and we’d love you to join us.

You’ll also be helping us raise money for NSPCC’s Childline© service when you purchase one of the special fundraising plates for the event. They cost just £10.00 and are available to buy from our giftshop.

Drive It Day has been organised since 2005 by The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC). In this time FBHVC has helped raise thousands of pounds for NSPCC. Last year £47,000 was raised – enough to run the Childline© service for one day.

It costs just £25.00 per car to take part in our Drive It Day drive out event, and is open to all Great British Car Club members or any other group affiliated with the MSA or Federation, so please do spread the word to anyone else who may be interested.

To book your place, contact Adrian Dale on 01773 317243 or email adrian@greatbritishcarjourney.com

Thursday  25th

To book for this talk, click on the link:

WeGotTickets | Simple, honest ticketing | History and Restoration of Wingfield Station

"Highlighting Heritage : The next talk is on Thursday 25 April and will be held at No28 in Belper. It is about the history and restoration of Wingfield Station, on one of the very early railway lines, which mostly came through Derbyshire on the way North. We are lucky enough to have the project manager for this restoration, Peter Milner, as our speaker.

The Grade II* listed Wingfield Station was built in 1836-1840 to the designs of Francis Thompson, as one of a series of structures  built for the North Midland Railway to Thompson’s designs. The building is one of the earliest surviving railway stations in the world, and is the sole survivor of Thompson’s picturesque sequence of twenty-four stations between Derby and Leeds, widely regarded as his finest work.

The condition of the building however deteriorated severely after its closure in the 1960s, resulting in Amber Valley Borough Council serving a Compulsory Purchase Order on the owner, with grant support from Historic England. The restoration is an excellent example of what can be done with even badly neglected sites, and is an encouragement to all historic building fans - there are many of those all over Derbyshire!. "

Tickets are £5 and can be bought for £5 from the shop at cromford and via the Event Pages on the Cromford Mill Website.
