Old Farm Bus Youth Club

The Old Farm Bus will now be running weekly sessions in Belper, bringing even more creativity, activities and opportunities for young people to get involved.

From Monday 7th September, you’ll find the guys from the Old Farm Bus at Strutts Community Centre every Monday evening between 5pm – 7pm until Monday 14th December.

Overview

It's 107 years after the Armistice that ended the large scale fighting in the Great War.

The world wars resulted in huge mobilisations of people and material that affected everywhere and everyone in this country and beyond. It caused rapid and often destructive social, economic and political change. Belper was no exception and in a two hour walk we'll look at some of the places where this can be appreciated.

Unfortunately due to the terrain of this 1.5 mile walk, it is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.

Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome on this walk. Stout shoes recommended.

Remembrance Sunday

The Remembrance Sunday Service will take place on Sunday 8th November 2026.

Arrive from 10.30am at the Memorial Gardens, with a 2-minute silence at 11am.

Wreaths will be laid, then attendees will parade to St Peter’s Church for the service beginning at 11.45am. Following the service, the parade will return to the Memorial Gardens, with the event ending at 1pm.

Overview

A short easy half a mile walk packed with history, along one of Belper's most interesting old lanes. Includes a visit to the Unitarian Chapel. Some uneven surfaces and a narrow channel. Led by Adrian Farmer.

Lasts approximately two hours. Not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.Unfortunately dogs are not allowed on this walk.

£1 of the ticket price will go towards the maintenance of the Unitarian Chapel built by Jedediah Strutt.

PRESERVING BELPER’S INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE– BELPER 250

A project coordinated by Belper Historical Society (BHS), aiming to engage with communities in and around Belper who may have relatives who worked in the many Belper factories and have treasures hidden away in cupboards and dusty attics. Volunteer BHS ‘curators’ will help to collect, organise and preserve factory-related photographs, documents and artefacts, creating virtual scrapbooks.

Once catalogued and digitised, original materials will be offered to the Derbyshire Record Office for long term storage. Donated artefacts will be added to the secure BHS store, to be used in future research and exhibitions.

A BHS team will attend the monthly Belper Market, to promote the project, offer advice on materials being organised before donation, and collect donated materials. Later market dates for 2026 are 11th April, 9th May, 13th June, 11th July, 8th August, 12th September, 10th October, 14th November and 12th December.

ENTERTAINING BELPER – BELPER 250

An illustrated talk by Adrian Farmer. Belper Library, where big stars like Gracie Fields once performed, and the first moving images to be seen in Belper were screened, is the ideal venue for a look back at how Belper has entertained itself over the past two centuries. Adrian looks at menageries to funfairs, cinemas to theatre productions, carnivals to water fetes – and much more.

ACCIDENTS AT THE STRUTT MILLS – BELPER 250

Talk by Trevor Lightfoot for Belper Historical Society. An accident book dating from 1827 to 1832 contains records of close to 1000 accidents that occurred in Belper mills. Trevor has looked closely at the book to see what we can learn about the safety record at the mills.

Milford Christmas Lights Switch On

The Christmas Lights will be switched on in Milford on Thursday 26th November 2026.

In Milford, the Christmas Lights will be switched on at the Triangle on Thursday 27th November at 4.45pm. Santa and his elves will also be there, handing out presents to all the children.

There will be a road closure in place between 4.30pm – 5.15pm to allow for the safe running of this event.
